Youtube has been criticised for allowing the spread of pseudo-scientific ideas, misinformation and conspiracy theories. Though the concept of a flat Earth has floated around since ages, it is only in the last few years, that the group has gained popularity with the help of social media. Why are flat-earthers gaining popularity? The International Flat Earth Research Society (IFERS), better known as the Flat Earth Society was set up in 1956 by Samuel Shenton in Dover, UK. However, they do believe that the other planets are spherical. They accuse Nasa of 'photoshopping' its satellite images based on the 'evidence' that the colour of the ocean is different in each image.
